Mccabe St Widening Project
McCabe St Widening Project
The McCabe St Widening Project is a key piece of Iluka Resources Local Road Upgrades Project, which forms part of the enabling works for the new Balranald Mineral Sands Mine. This phase of the local roads upgrade focuses on McCabe St the existing truck diversion route, connecting Market St to Ivanhoe Rd, allowing HV traffic to avoid the town center.
Due to the large increase this pavement will see during the production phase of the mine, Iluka has committed to refurbishing this pavement and improving safety on the road. The final approved design for this road extended the existing pavement from 7.5m wide, out to 10m, it will have asphalted bitumen on all corners where higher stress is predicted and a new spray seal on all other sections.
The road sits on top of a levee bank that protects much of the town from flood waters when the Murrumbidgee River is in flood. Hence it is critical the soil placed within the alignment is of the correct quality and able to withstand saturation in the event of flood waters.
Potter Excavations has been engaged to complete all earthworks and associated road works on behalf of Iluka, in close consultation with the Balranald Shire Council. We look forward to the successful delivery of this important piece of public infrastructure.
